11-3 If you're a Thunderbird fan, you need to be patient. Last week, Bellevue West spotted Westside a 35-nothing lead, then staged one of the most incredible comebacks ever seen on a Nebraska football field. Wednesday night in the first round of the high school playoffs, Lincoln High didn't appear to be intimidated at all in taking a 14-7 lead over the T Birds at halftime. The 2nd half was like a tale of two cities. Quarterback Josh Fluellen directed 5 straight scoring drives as the host team raced to a 42-14 victory. The defense stiffened and held the Links to just 76 yards in total offense. For John Faiman's team, West rolled up 455 yards overall. The playoff road gets tougher as the Thunderbirds visit Millard North in a rematch of a game West won earlier, 28-16
October 29
Bellevue West remains undefeated for the regular season following a 52-49 comeback win over #2 Omaha Westside.
Down 28-0 at the half, the Thunderbirds offense ignited an impressive rally to tie the score at 35 early in the fourth quarter. The T-birds scored 38 points in the fourth quarter including the game winning field goal by Brandon Doey with 4 seconds remaining in the game.
Jeff Souder started the offense for Bellevue West in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run followed by a Doey kick. Minutes later Jeff Martin added to the T-bird score with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Silas Fluellen with a successful Doey kick.
In the fourth quarter Jeff Martin scored twice on 43 and 45 yard receptions from Silas Fluellen. Jeff Souder scored on a 47-yard touchdown run and a 3-yard touchdown run and Jason Kalfut scored on a 20-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 49 with seconds remaining on the clock. Brandon Doey added the extra point following each touchdown and claimed the win for Bellevue West with the 41-yard field goal with 4 seconds on the clock.
October 23
The Thunderbirds remain undefeated following Friday nights 28-16 win over defending state champion Millard North.
The Bellevue West offense got on track in the second quarter Friday night with a little help from the defense when Tyler Smith scored on a 20-yard blocked punt return by Brandon Kalfut. A few minutes later Smith scored again on a 10-yard blocked punt return by Derek Perez. Later in the quarter Jeff Souder scored on a 23-yard pass from Silas Fluellen.
The Thunderbirds were held scoreless in the third quarter but secured the victory in the fourth quarter when Jeff Martin scored on a 6-yard pass from Fluellen.
The Thunderbirds face #2 Omaha Westside at Phelps Field for the final game of the season on Thursday night.
October 18
The Thunderbirds improve their record to 7-0 after Friday night's 35-0 victory over Omaha Northwest.
Jeff Souder had 13 carries for 157 yeards and scored 4 of the T-birds touchdowns including a 60-yard punt return. J.T. Fluellen had four pass receptions in the game for 95 yards including a 40-yard touchdown pass.
Bellevue West hosts Millard North in Friday night's game.

The T-birds remain undefeated with a 32-14 win over Papillion LaVista Friday night to claim a 6-0 record for the season.
Bellevue West took a 10-7 lead into halftime on a Jason Kalfut 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 35-yard Doey field goal in the second. Jeff Souder scored three touchdowns in the second half and led the defense forcing two interceptions and a fourth quarter safety.
Bellevue West hosts Omaha Northwest in Friday night's game.

The Bellevue West Thunderbirds remain undefeated following a 24-14 win over host Omaha Central Friday night. The Thunderbird defense shut down the Central offense in the second half while the offense got on track.
Bellevue West started their comeback from a 14-0 deficit when Jason Kalfut took Aaron Dorsey down for a safety on the first possession of the second half. The Thunderbirds closed the lead to 14-10 on a 5-yard touchdown run by Jeff Souder late in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Fluellen's connected on a 10-yard pass from Silas to J.T. to give Bellevue West the lead and Jeff Souder carried the ball in on a 1-yard run to claim the victory for the Thunderbirds.
Bellevue West will travel to Papillion LaVista next Friday night for their game against the Monarchs.
******September 24
The Thunderbirds improve to a 4-0 record for the season with their 42-8 win over Omaha Bryan Friday night.
The T-birds jumped off to an early lead on the first play of the game with a 74-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Silas Fluellen to junior Jeff Martin. Bellevue West added 2 more touchdowns in the first quarter for a 21-0 first quarter score. The T-birds came out in the second quarter with Chris Howard scoring on a 44-yard pass from Fluellen followed by Jeff Souder scoring on a 7-yard pass from Fluellen to close the half with a 35-0 halftime score for Bellevue West.
Bellevue West scored one more time in the third quarter on a 7-yard run by Jason Kaifut while the Thunderbird defense held Omaha Bryan scoreless until the fourth quarter when Bryan scored their only touchdown of the game.
The Thunderbirds face Omaha Central on Friday night.

It was the Fluellen show Thursday night. Silas Fluellen lofted a ball 53 yards to brother J.T. to rally the T Birds past Lincoln East, 24-20. Lincoln dominated play in the middle quarters, but Coach John Faiman said his club came through at opportune times to win its 2nd straight contest. Bellevue West is back in action Friday night against Papillion Lavista South. 9-17-Same song, second verse. Like last week, it was Silas Fluellen and his brother J.T. providing the offensive firepower for the T Birds as they rolled to a 49-12 victory Papillion Lavista South. Silas threw for 189 yards and J.T. hauled in 3 catches for 88 yards and 3 touchdowns. John Faiman's club rolled up 389 yards in total offense. The T-Birds play host to Omaha Bryan Friday night. |
