10-22 Papillion Lavista fought back from a 13 point deficit to take a 14-13 lead late in the final quarter, only to see Omaha North score on a 15 yard touchdown run by Rogers Tucker that gave the Vikings a 19-14 win over the Monarchs. That's Papillion Lavista's first loss to the Vikings in school history. The Monarchs close the regular season on the road Thursday at Omaha Northwest.

Papillion LaVista was unable to complete a comeback run in the fourth quarter before the clock ran out to lose 21-31 to Millard North Friday night.
The Monarch's answered the early Mustang lead in the first quarter scoring twice on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Leigh Jochimsen to David Ferris and again on a 30-yard fumble return by Justin Wieser taking a 14-7 lead. Millard North came back to tie the score at 14 to end the first quarter. The Monarchs were held scoreless through the next two quarters before a comeback run in the fourth quarter ran short in the 21-31 loss to Millard North.

The Monarchs faced a strong Bellevue West team in Friday night's 14-32 loss.
The Monarch's responded to the early Thunderbird lead when David Ferris scored on an 11-yard pass from Leigh Jochimsen in the second quarter narrowing the Bellevue lead to 10-7 at the half. Chris Phalen scored again for the Monarchs in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard pass from Jochimsen but the clock ran out before the Monarchs could complete the comeback.

In a defensive battle at Phelps field Friday night the clock ran out before the Monarchs could complete a comeback in a 6-13 loss to Omaha Westside.
Both teams remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter as the defenses dominated the game. The Warriors scored first in the second quarter and again in the third quarter before the Monarch offense got on fire in the fourth. With the Warriors ahead 13-0, fullback Jared Gable put the Monarchs on the board with a 4-yard run to make the score 6-13. The defense held Westside in their next possession and the offense returned for another drive started by David Ferris' 46-yard run that was stalled at the Westside 37.
In their final drive with 1:03 left on their own 23, Leigh Jochimsen connected on a 42-yard pass to Ferris to move the ball to the Westside 35. On the next play, Jochimsen again connected with Ferris for 17-yards to the Westside 18, but the clock ran out before the Monarchs could complete the drive.

The Monarchs claimed the early lead in Friday night's game at Creighton Prep when Justin Wieser scored on a 12-yard run behind fullback Jared Gable in less than 2 minutes into the game. The Junior Jays responded with a touchdown in the first quarter and the game turned into a defensive battle for the next 3 quarters. The game ended in a 7-7 tie at the end of regulation.
Papillion LaVista was first to score in the overtime when Dusty Strickler scored on a 35-yard field goal attempt to give the Monarchs at 10-7 lead. The Junior Jays came back with a touchdown on their possession in overtime to claim a 13-10 win on their home field.
The Monarchs will face Omaha Westside Friday night.

The Monarchs jumped off to an early 21-0 first quarter lead in Friday night's game over Omaha South. Quarterback Leigh Jochimson completed 9 for 11 passes for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns to help the Monarchs claim a 35-point halftime lead.
Justin Wieser led the Monarchs with 163 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with David Farris' 94 yards on two carries, 4 pass receptions for 91 yards and 1 touchdown as well as one interception. The 3-0 Monarchs remain undefeated on the season with the 58-20 win over Omaha South.
The Monarchs travel to Creighton Prep for their Friday night match-up.
9/8 Papillion Lavista's schedule was tough enough after playing Westside and Creighton Prep, but after enduring a 32-14 setback at the hands of Bellevue West, Coach Gene Suhr said that was the best team the Monarchs have faced this year. Down only 10-7 at the half, the Thunderbirds exploded in the 2nd half on 3 Jeff Souder touchdowns. Leigh Jochimson led the Monarchs offensively, hitting 15 of 23 passes for 247 yards. It doesn't get any easier. Papillion Lavista visits Millard North for a Friday showdown. |
